Author of Flickertail & Paint, Barnyward Sleuths

Congratulations Mary Russel on being Voted The Best Site in our Contest!

About Mary Russel´s Books
Flickertail & Paint, Barnyard Sleuths was written for 8-12 year-olds with the intention to entertain and to encourage children to further explore any of the concepts, history or ideas they find interesting.

Rudolph, A Child´s Love Story also written for 8-12 year-olds, is intended to help children who feel unaccepted. The Sleuth & Scribe series was written for escape and the usual fun of whodunits, although the readers may find some messages that speak to them.

More than any book Mary has yet written, Rudolph helped her to accept and embrace her childhood. While writing Rudolph, she discovered she loves the person she has become. She said, “My childhood had so much do with shaping me. What a freeing and powerful revelation! I hope that is what the reader will come away with too.”

If you have not as of yet, upgraded your Zen Cart, please do it now as soon as possible.

How do I upgrade my site?  Below is the information from Zen Cart

Detailed upgrade instructions that help you retain your customizations while upgrading to new features, can be found in your ZIP file under the /docs/2.Readme-Upgrade.html file and also in this related FAQ article

Here’s a high-level overview/summary of the process, that does NOT save your customizations.
If you want to preserve your customizations, use the DETAILED instructions mentioned above.

  1. Back up your site from the server as well as the copy on your computer.
  2. Backup your database
  3. Create a new directory and copy your site into it
  4. Then create a new database and load your old database in it
  5. Next, change the two configure.php files to utilize the new directory and database
This way … when you attempt to upgrade you are “practicing” to see where the problems, if any will happen
  6. Make sure all appears to be working on your temp site.
  7. Now load the “new” version files to your new temp directory (from latest downloaded ZIP)
  8. Run the http://www.your_domain_name.com/your_new_site/zc_install
  9. Choose the Upgrade Database option
  10. Process each suggested step one at a time … leave the first checkbox that the upgrader picked checked and uncheck the others.
-Advantage is that you can see your problems step by step
-Each time it completes it will recheck the boxes left to go.
-Continue in this method until all boxes are unchecked.
  11. If you find you have issues, you are not hurting anything and can always start over without damage to your existing shop and live database.

Reminder:  Read the /docs/2.readme-upgrade.html document for step-by-step details and information on tools to help in the process.

OrganicGiftsByDiana was interviewed by The New York Times

Squidoo with The Selling LoungeThe Selling Lounge has some awesome news about one of our members, OrganicGiftsByDiana.

Diana was interviewed by The New York Times about how she makes her all natural perfumes and other products like body balms and hand-sewn items… from her very own organic garden.

Diana was spotted by her Squidoo that she put together on her products!  So as you can see, Squidoo will and can help your business.  EVERYONE needs to get to Squidooing! If you would like to learn about Squidoo, please stop by The Selling Lounge Squidoo forum board by click here: TSL Squidoo.  You will find a wealth of information on how to Squidoo from Diana.

Below is the article in The New York Times on OrganicGiftsByDiana:

Making jojoba oil infusions out of her flower beds is partly a matter of thrift for Diana Burrell-Shipton, a 47-year-old “work-at-home mom” in Hubbard, Ohio, on the outskirts of Youngstown. An ounce of wild lavender essential oil, for instance, might cost more than $20 from an Internet catalog. And a common perfuming aroma like orris butter, made from the iris rhizome, costs $200 for just a quarter-ounce.Organic Gifts By Diana

“I had no extra money to be buying the organic infusions even if I could find them,” she wrote in an e-mail message. She prefers to know the origin of all her ingredients, anyway.

Ms. Burrell-Shipton has tired of seeing “ ‘all-natural’ or ‘organic’ claims on the front of the label,” she wrote, “only to turn the product over and discover the real ingredients by reading the whole label.” And she said she is suspicious of any “faceless company, who has the main goal of making money.”

True to those beliefs, Ms. Burrell-Shipton doesn’t charge enough to turn a profit on the solid perfumes and sewn handicrafts that she makes in a 1973 Coachmen travel trailer and sells online (at organicgiftsbydiana.mybisi.com). Her workshop is parked behind an 1825 homestead that once belonged to her grandmother. She lives there on an acre of land with her husband and two daughters.

In economic terms, this is a captive market. Where else is her family going to buy natural perfumes? But her household is also well served. Her 12-year-old, Elaina, said that she wears her garden-grown lavender balm to relax before a big exam or a choral concert.

Ms. Burrell-Shipton’s mother, meanwhile, has her own custom blend of plum- and peach-peel infusions from the yard. It’s a source of comfort, she said, as her mother copes with Stage 4 cancer.
